The Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veteran Affairs Community Outpatient Clinic in Kalaeloa Town was honored as the Outstanding Public/Government Project at NAIOP Hawai‘i’s 28th Annual Kukulu Hale Awards. This Award of Excellence was announced during NAIOP Hawai‘i’s signature event in May, which celebrated the state’s top commercial real estate developments.

The Daniel K. Akaka VA Clinic, a nearly 90,000 square-foot multi-specialty facility, was developed by Hunt Companies Hawai‘i, which owns and manages the clinic while leasing it to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Designed by Ferraro Choi and Associates and built by general contractor Nan, Inc., the clinic offers primary care, mental health services, x-ray, laboratory, diagnostic, pharmacy and specialty care for Hawai‘i’s veterans. Hunt Senior Vice President Thomas Lee led the development team for the VA’s Pacific Islands Health Care System.

“We are honored to have helped bring this much-needed healthcare facility not only to the 17,000 military veterans who live in West O‘ahu, but to the more than 87,000 veterans throughout the Pacific,” said Le e. “Everyone at Hunt is proud to receive the Outstanding Public/Government Project recognition from NAIOP and to see the positive impact the clinic is having on the community.”

This marks Hunt’s third Award of Excellence in two years. Last year, the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa was named the top Public/Government Project, while ‘Āhuimanu, a neighborhood center on Kaua‘i’s North Shore, was honored as the Best New Project – Commercial/Other (40,000 Square Feet or Less).
